By January 1920, Kolchak's Siberian White forces were disintegrating. Revolts cut off their retreat and Kolchak resigned on January 4. The Czechoslovak troops in control of the railway arrested him, handing him over to the new 'Political Centre' in Irkutsk in return for passage out of Russia. He was shot on February 7.
